PRESS RELEASE
Steve Gilchrist, CHEC VP, Elected to Board of Directors of National Hydrogen Association brings a Canadian perspective and two decades of involvement in the hydrogen industry to the largest hydrogen industry association in North America
Steve Gilchrist, Vice President of Canadian Hydrogen Energy Company, the world’s leading manufacturer of on-board hydrogen electrolysers, was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Hydrogen Association at its recent Annual Hydrogen Conference in San Antonio, Texas. The NHA is the largest hydrogen trade association in North America with over 100 members drawn from industry, government and academic and research institutions, including several key Canadian hydrogen companies.
Elected in the “Small Business” category, Mr. Gilchrist will assist in the communication efforts of the hydrogen industry, particularly in Washington, but will also strive to ensure that Canadian companies have access to the government policy-making and funding in the United States. “It is critically important, at this stage of the evolution of the hydrogen economy, that governments on both sides of the border are aware of the full range of hydrogen products that are available today and the speed at which new products are being brought to market”, said Mr. Gilchrist. “Government funding is increasingly being directed towards demonstration projects and Canadian companies are world leaders in the hydrogen industry. As North America faces increasing fossil fuel prices and more stringent emission standards, there will be an increasing demand for the only truly “green” energy carrier – hydrogen”, he added.
As part of his efforts on the Board, Mr. Gilchrist will seek to increase the participation rate by Canadian researchers and manufacturers in the workshops, conferences and educational programs being developed by the NHA.
Steve Gilchrist has been the Vice President at Canadian Hydrogen Energy Company since December 2003. Prior to joining CHEC, he was the first Commissioner of Alternative Energy for the province of Ontario and was responsible for regulatory and legislative issues relating to a broad range of technologies, including wind, solar, geothermal, biomass and hydrogen. While in that role, Mr. Gilchrist was responsible for a series of incentives to promote energy conservation and the use of cleaner fuels, especially ethanol- and biodiesel-blended fuels. An ardent environmentalist, during his eight years as a Member of Parliament in Ontario, he played a key role in the creation of the Rouge Park, the world’s largest park in an urban setting, the protection of the Scarborough Bluffs and the banning of development on virtually all of the Oak Ridges Moraine and area of over 1900 square kilometers north of Toronto.
About the National Hydrogen Association (NHA). The NHA is the premier hydrogen trade organization in the United States led by over 100 companies dedicated to supporting the transition to hydrogen. Programs are focused on education and outreach, policy, safety and codes and standards. Since 1989, the NHA has served as a catalyst for information exchange and cooperative projects and continues to provide the setting for mutual support among industry, research and government organizations.
About Canadian Hydrogen Energy Company: The developer of the world’s most advanced on-board hydrogen generating system, the CHEC Hydrogen Fuel Injection system is patented and is a hydrogen technology that’s in the marketplace today. Installed on transport trucks, light trucks, emergency service vehicles, buses and stationary generators, the HFI system offers unparalleled benefits for virtually any internal combustion engine, with increased horsepower, decreased emissions and a substantive improvement in fuel economy. The company’s products are marketed through the largest global distribution network for any hydrogen product.

CHEC achieve a number of significant milestone
2007 has already seen CHEC achieve a number of significant milestones. Over and above our ongoing participation in all the large truck shows in North America (and many specialty and local shows, as well), CHEC has been invited to participate in a number of important international conferences. These have included the largest environmental conference in the Middle East (Environment 2007 in Abu Dhabi), the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Expo in Tokyo and the National Hydrogen Association Conference in San Antonio. The Tokyo Expo is the largest Hydrogen Industry trade show in the world, with 25,000 people attending over four days. That show generated contacts in Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand – even Finland! Over the past year, Steve Gilchrist has been invited to speak about Hydrogen Fuel Injection at nine different international conferences and, at most of those conferences, CHEC has also had a display booth to show off the newest HFI models. We already have invitations to participate in five more conferences this year, on three different continents, as part of our ongoing efforts to better educate industry, governments and researchers about the important role that HFI can play in the global transition to an all-hydrogen economy.
Our presence at these conferences has dramatically increased international interest in our products and we now have companies in 54 countries interested in distributing HFI. In Australia, alone, we have 15 different companies eager to promote HFI in the trucking, marine, taxi and emergency vehicle markets and more companies are contacting us every month. The conferences also gives us a chance to talk directly with government officials responsible for emissions standards in countries all around the world to ensure that they consider HFI as a viable option when looking at how to deal with the global problems of air pollution and global warming.
It’s obviously paying off, as awareness of the benefits of adding hydrogen to diesel fuel is clearly growing. Earlier this year, CHEC won the first ever government Request for Proposal in the United States to outfit municipal buses with Hydrogen Fuel Injection technology. When governments actually specify hydrogen-addition, it’s clear that HFI has reached new levels of recognition and customer satisfaction!
2007 is poised to be our best year yet, with more dealers, in more countries than any competitive product. There is no doubt that “HFI” has set the benchmark for all other manufacturers to follow – and we intend to keep that #1 position!

CHEC SHOWS HYDROGEN FUEL INJECTION TO THE WORLD
Canadian Hydrogen Energy Company (CHEC), the world's leading manufacturer of on-board hydrogen electrolysers, was honored to be invited to the annual United Nations Environment Programme Global Ministerial Environmental Forum and the "Environmentally Sound Technology Showcase" in Dubai. Only 50 companies were invited, from around the world, to demonstrate technologies capable of reducing, or reversing, air, water and soil pollution. CHEC was one of only two Canadian companies invited and the only hydrogen product manufacturer in attendance.
The conference was attended by over 1200 senior government officials from 139 countries and representatives of various UN agencies, all of whom were interested in finding technologies and strategies capable of improving the global environment. The CHEC booth was visited by dozens of senior officials, including a number of Environment Ministers from countries around the world, all of whom were impressed by the Hydrogen Fuel Injection technology and its ability to dramatically reduce exhaust emissions and to reduce fuel consumption, from any engine, by at least 10%. The conference has already led to a number of commercial contacts which will expand the existing international distribution of HFI technology even further.
"It was a real honor to be singled out and invited to such an important international conference", said CHEC VP Steve Gilchrist.
"The conference gave us a chance to show hundreds of important decision makers - even the Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan - the significant impact that our HFI technology can have on the air quality, and the national economies, of developed and developing nations all around the world. With dramatic increases in fuel prices and a global concern for increasing air pollution, there has never been stronger demand for emissions control products", Gilchrist added.
About Canadian Hydrogen Energy Company: The developer of the world's most advanced on-board hydrogen generating system, the CHEC Hydrogen Fuel Injection system is patented, or patent-pending worldwide and has been actively marketed for over eight years. The system offers unparalleled benefits for virtually any internal combustion engine, with increased horsepower, decreased emissions and a minimum 10% improvement in fuel economy guaranteed. The company's products are marketed through a network of almost 100 certified installation centres in Canada, the U.S. and around the world.

Mid
America Truck show
CHEC was extremely pleased with the reception we received
at the Mid America Truck show in
Loisville Kentucky. The attendees were often 4 and
5 deep at the CHEC booth, all clamouring for information
about the Hydrogen Fuel injection system. The word
is out! Many people told us that they spent 2 days
just trying to find our booth so they could talk to
us in person and find out more about our amazing technology.
Truckers that have all ready purchased our HFI System
even stopped by the booth to rave about the fuel savings
and many even brought friends with them so they could
take advantage of the fuel savings as well. It was
apparent that many truckers have been spreading the
word about the benefits available through the Hydrogen
Fuel Injection System. CHEC was very proud to sponsor
the Canadian truck that entered the Mid America Custom
Truck Build off. CHEC plans to make an even bigger
splash at the 2006 Mid America Show.

U.S.
Patent Allowed!
CHEC is pleased to announce that it has received the “Notice
of Allowance” from the US Patent Office for a pending
patent application for its electrolysis cell technology.
The US Patent Office allowed the application, thereby
recognizing the inventive nature of many aspects of CHEC’s
technology. CHEC’s technology was ruled by the Patent
Office to be patentable over the existing patents, including
those alleged by a Canadian competitor as supposedly invalidating
CHEC’s corresponding Canadian patent. In CHEC’s
view this ruling confirms the weakness of the competitor’s
allegations. Upon the US patent issuing, CHEC will have,
under US law, an exclusive right to make, have made, use
and sell its patented technology in the US. Adding this
US patent to CHEC’s already issued Canadian patent
substantially enhances the company’s intellectual
property rights. Corresponding patent applications are
pending in most foreign countries and CHEC looks forward
to expanding and will enforce its exclusive rights in
all such countries as such applications are examined,
approved and issued to patent.

STEVE GILCHRIST – Vice President,
Government Affairs
After a highly successful career as an executive in retail
operations with Canadian Tire, Steve was elected to the
Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 1995. While serving as
a Member of Provincial Parliament for 8 years, Steve’s
public activism extended across multiple, often overlapping
roles within Cabinet, and as Chair of several key committees.
Well known for his commitment to a wide variety of environmental
issues and his long-standing interest in hydrogen technologies
in particular, Steve was appointed as the first Commissioner
of Alternative Energy for the province of Ontario. In that
position, he initiated the most significant movement towards
renewable power ever taken by a Canadian province. Under
his leadership, a comprehensive survey of all renewable
energy technologies world-wide was conducted, followed by
the creation of some of the most progressive energy policies
in North America.
In his new role at Canadian Hydrogen Energy Company, Steve
will focus on raising awareness within the public and private
sectors of the key transitional role that the HFI System
can play as our society moves over the next two or three
decades, towards a pure hydrogen economy.
